Abigail Williams
In The Crucible, Abigail Williams was portrayed to be about 17, but in fact when the actual witch trials occurred, she was 11 (Gracyk).
Abigail was also having an affair with John Proctor in The Crucible, but it is very unlikely that she even knew John Proctor before she accused him of witchcraft (Gracyk).
In both the actual trials and the play, Abigail participated in many of the cases, testifying against people and accusing others (Ray).
In the play it is said that Abigail's parents were murdered and that is why she is living with her uncle, Reverend Parris. While, this could be true, little is actually known about Abigail's family or what her actual relation is to Parris (Ray).
Both Abigail and Betty who were two of the girls who basically started the whole thing actually did have some kind of physical illness causing sores on their extremities which were believed to be bites from witches casting out their souls to harm them (Ray).
Not much is known as to what happened to Abigail Williams, her name disappearing from records after 1692 some believe she ran away, and some believe she lived out her years and never married (Ray).
