Thomas and Ann Putnam
Thomas Putnam is seen by some to be one of the most powerful people of the Salem Witch Trials, his daughter made a large amount of accusations and he made them valid in the court (Ray).
In the play, the Putnam's daughter was named Ruth but their daughters name was actually Ann Putnam, Jr (Ray).
Unlike in the play, more than one of Ann Putnam's children survived passed infancy (Perks).
The Putnam family was considered one of the most powerful families in Salem (Ray).
It is believed that over 122 depositions from the Trials were written by Thomas Putnam, and a lot of them seem to be from Putnam himself, not one of the accusing girls (Ray).
The Putnam's accusations against others in the play are mostly based around Ann Putnam's dead babies, but during the actual trials it seems as though their motives were out of greed (Ray).
